As coaches, leaders, teachers, and parents, our responses to stress and adversity are instructive to the children and young adults under our guidance and in our care. Through the practice of mindful attention and through the development of healthy and sustainable stress-managements skills, we can build resilience in ourselves, our families, and our communities.

About Matt Dewar, Ed.D., Well-Being Coordinator and SEL Instructional Coach:
Dr. Matt Dewar connects students, educators, and schools with the latest research-based mindfulness and stress-management strategies. For almost two decades, he has served as a coach, teacher, and well-being coordinator at Lake Forest High School, introducing students and colleagues to mindfulness and self-care through professional development, academic courses, and school-wide programs. He has also shared mindfulness practices with many high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. Dr. Dewar is the former president of The Coalition of Schools Educating Mindfully (COSEM) and is the author of The Mindful Breathing Workbook for Teens (2021) and Education and Well-Being: An Ontological Inquiry (2016).
